I was talking to my friend the other day, and he told me that chewing gum was not good for your teeth. Actually, not only him, many people have the same thought as he does. So the question is "is chewing gum good or bad for your teeth?".
Are you ready for the truth? Chewing gum is actually good for your teeth. Now are you ready to know why? There are two reasons for it.
First, if you are out there having lunch or dinner and dont have access to a toothbrush and a toothpaste or even the floss, chewing gum will be the second-best alternative to brush your teeth. Since chewing gum is sticky and it can get deeply into the space between your teeth, it mechanically cleans the surfaces of your teeth. The best chewing gum is the sugar free one. If you dont have the sugar-free gum, you still can get that benefit by chewing it for longer. Most people throw the gum away after the sugar is gone. That can put your teeth at risk for a sugar attack.
Second, and possibly the most benefical, chewing gum promotes the flow of saliva. Besides having enzymes that digest carbohydrates, saliva has antibodies that fight decay-causing bacteria, it contains buffers that neutralize the acids that eat at your teeth, and it contains minerals that help rebuild parts of your teeth that have been attacked by decay acid.
